14 across - "Gibson's no catholic at heart - gets bust (6)" I have M?L?N? - looks like MELONS - I get the MEL for Gibson and the overall 'bust' connection, but the rest of the wordplay leaves me cold. can anyone enlighten me, please?

Hi suber, I have the same as you - presume 'catholic' is being used in the sense of 'liberal', referring to 'no'. Hope that makes sense.

Morning, Mrs T - thanks for your help. You mean 'liberal', indicating an anagram of 'no'='on'? It's an angle I hadn't thought of - and feasible, but not very good from the compiler, I think. But, I'm sure you're right. Thanks again.
