27ac Amend paper said to go by the board (9)
It's DISAPPEAR; anagram "paper said", defn "to go". What is the significance of the "by the board bit"? (This isn't addressed oin fifteensquared - Ilooked; it just register s the anagram.)

Go by the board means to disappear

"go by the board" is a nautical saying meaning - finished with, as in thrown overboard, (the board is the side or decking of a ship). So if something goes by the board it definitely disappears.
