I recently completed a crossword puzzle that I believe originated with the New York Times. 6 across had the clue: "3 of 3 and 1/3 of 4?". The correct answer is: "defg". My question to you is: "What's the clue referring to?" The puzzle was not very difficult, otherwise. I verified the correct answer but could not find an explanation for the clue. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Tom

Hiya Tom,

It took me a while, but I've got it mate.

If you look on your phone, 3 of the letters (def) are on Number 3 (3 of 3)
And G is a third (i/3)of the letters (gef) on Number 4

Sorry.

Number 3 holds 'def' = 3 of 3
Number 4 holds 'ghi' and a 1/3 of this is 'g'

Don't know what I was up to then with the previous post

Hope you get it now

Amazing!

Looked at that, couldn't make sense of it.
Back to the JE.

Hey Les, you're supposed to be in bed.
