Have you seen this clue in the cryptic Jumbo(977) this week.

29A) Is one bound to show the possibility of influential contacts? (3,6,3)

For anyone who hasn't got the answer to this yet,
Lionheart set a brilliant clue for this in the March Joint Effort, which was:

What unruly child loosened to no end? (3,6,3)

Enjoy, Les40

I agree with you, Les40. The Lionheart clue was much neater than The Times clue. We have talent in our midst!

Assuming I am right! I solved it from the excellent Lionheart clue.

You are indeed correct Rossim, and I agree totally Brackendale.

I agree lionheart's clue is very elegant but doesn't "old school tie" refer to the old boy network, people like us sort of thing. There's nothing in lionheart's clue about this, just that children don't knot their tie properly.

ha...well spotted Les!
No offence or poopoo taken from anyone ;)
Philip, I might have been blinded by a eureka moment when I wrote that clue. You're quite right there's nothing in there referring to it being specifically an OLD school tie as opposed to a current one, but the anagram was irresistible!
