Hi,

13d (10) -h-o---i-e
Abandoned hotel to die in transit, in America.

Looks like theodolite or theologis(z)e but if so why. An anagram?

Apparently transit refers to a specialised type of theodolite so the anagram is correct

theodolite
Anagram of 'hotel to die', indicated by abandoned.
A 'transit' is an early type of theodolite and I can only assume it is an American term.
Best I can do lol
