I've completed the grid, resolved the clashes and highlighted the 18 squares.

However, according to the instructions I should be able to combine the discarded letters (YAEOPP) with an "unfinished clash" to provide a reference.

As an aside, Enigmatic Variations is notorious for careless editing. There's usually one mistake every week and this time there's a spelling mistake in 5 down.

if you take the discarded letters and an unfinished clas(h) - they make up an anagram of another word for a total disaster
