Interesting - just been to that site which has the Mail answers (http://dailymailcrossword.web.officelive.com/100909.aspx) and the puzzle given for 10.09.09 is totally different to the one I've been doing. Good thing I managed to finish it. And with just one query:

"Source of metal in 2 coins" = ore.

(also, every 2nd word of source = ore)

should read;
every 2nd LETTER of source = ore
