I've got mist - m (frenchman) + I + st (street = the way), mist = haze

Thanks Mike and Liz, That gives me musak for 6d - which should be spelt muzak? and now I'm stumped on 7d!

7d is SIMON, I agree with you that musac should be spelt muzac!

... or even musak should be spelt muzak
