Rusty answer looks good to me,
Practically(practically the same - almost)
rush = tear
tear almost = tea(r)
drink - tea.

21d = (FRENCH) DOOR D(eutschland) + ROO reversed. Euro is a small kangaroo.
25d = (AFRICAN) VIOLETS V(IDE) + anagrom of LIETO + S.
39 = (GREEK/MALTESE) CROSS . FUNNEL is a hybrid offspring of a stallion and a she-ass. CaRbOn + (ha)s + S for sulphur.

Thanks everyone.
Turast, are you sure that the adjective for 21d is french, because I thought thaqt french would fit more appropriately with 38d i.e. french fries
Also, what did you get for:
10d Colour of Phosphorus, perhaps, in Ian's gutters (7)
12d Pass prunes or any small things (7)
32d In poems, celebrate elevation of emperors (6)?O????
I thought 47ac might be (definition) sea-fox, but seem to have two Es (34d&45d)
Any ideas?

Yes, I do think the adjective which goes with 21d is FRENCH. There are several instances of FRENCH (Fries, as you've said, SASH, POX, LOAF) but it's not important. All the adjectives except one give a description by nationality.
10d (FRENCH/ENGLISH) MU STAR D
12d (SCOTCH) COL LOPS
32d (ITALIAN) SONNET (Tennos reversed)
47Ac SEA APE
