N for Knight is an abbreviation commonly used in chess notation and is therefore quite valid in a crossword puzzle. Unlike the abbreviations used by that wanker who composes the Express Skeleton

I am stuck on the last one
7a Supple boy with dainty extremities. ?E?D?

I can get BENDY, from B for boy, END for extremities, but whence the Y.

Or am I wrong?

Hi Philip.

'bendy' looks right to me

= 'ben' (boy's name) + 'dy' (letters at the extremity of the word 'dainty').
