Managed to lose the paper and only just found it again. Help needed on a few,
34d Nearly buy Scottish property disused in Java(6 - C?????)
28d Regional expert leaving gratuitously heckles (7)
38a Hedge swamp without environmentally friendly backing (7 - ???X???)

PLEASE NOTE: with the last across clue, 'the wordplay refers to the grid entry, which is a jumble of the defined answer'(preamble)

Explanations would be gratefully accepted, and many thanks in advance.

Just browsing and came across this.

34D. buy = coff (Scottish). Nearly buy = COF.

fee = property (Obsolete = disused)

Yielding; cof + fee = COFFEE = Java

gratuitously = needlessly
sly = expert (dialsct = regional).

sly leaving needlessly = NEEDLES = heckles

thanks both of you
I think actually that the grid entry for the across clue might be FEN-X-OCE, reversing eco because of the word backing in the clue. It caused a clash.
And the explanations were really helpful Jolan, so thanks.
