6d Chid held back (6,2) ????e?, u?
7d Ghost no more heard 4 ????c?e?
4 being Nelson

I think 6d is 'pulled up' which has both meanings
and 7d is 'expecter' as it sounds like ex-spectre for ghost no more, and Nelson said 'England expects that every man...'

Definitely pulled up. Expecter sounds OK. So what is 9ac?

Def CLAP for 9ac
Clap means pat, as in clap the dog, and fulminate means thunder ie clap of thunder
