Can only be who or woo but can for the life of me work it out why. There is a related clue 24ac battle against 26d which I think I've correctly solved and the answer is Agincourt.

without is often abbreviated as w/o

Just in case ChrisE's answer isn't clear to you, the W/o surrounding o (i.e. 'love') gives you Woo which is to 'romance'
