Can anyone help with this last clue?
Very much holding twigs up as material for baskets (6) osier?
I don't know whether it's 'osierS' or 'osierY'.
Thanks.

OSIERS I believe.

OS = very much (outsize) very loosely

holding reis (under rice(2) in Chambers)= twigs and 'up' = SEIR

Thanks, both of you. I'd never heard of the 'reis'/twigs thing. Osiers was my original answer, but then osiery came into my head - and I couldn't see how one was better than the other. I do now!

I knew some of my answers were definitely correct, but were the wrong size/place in the grid - and I realised what the date was. I worked out the four longest answers and tried to see where they'd fit (working with other answers). I realised the Across answers were for Down clues and vice versa. It took a while, but I then saw the system to it - so that enabled me to get the tricky clues. (If you need/want the system, let me know).

Thanks, Malone.

I'm a little miffed about this, because Beelzebub is not a themed puzzle. I "do" themed puzzles.

This coming out of the blue is annoying to me.

I think I really was an "April fool" :-))
