Anyone had a go at this one yet?

It's too early to give answers yet as the submission date is 27th April.

My query is:- Is there an error in the clue for 10 across? An "M" seems to be lost in the solution. I'm sure I'll feel chagrined if the explanation is very simple!

Also, 1D seems to be ambiguous as the singular or plural of the solution fits the clue (I'd favour the singular, but 'who knows what was in the setter's head?').

sorry that comment was for 10a!
I have gone for the plural in the other one, but as I am fairly new, that's just what I took it to be.

Hi Jazzgirl. Re 10A, I'm sure missing the point today (SEE LATER!!!). I was working on the first month it's centre and being replaced by 'miss' but this didn't give me the '(old Turkish) so0ldier. Have I got the wrong soldier?

Re 1D. I went for 'singular' just because 'one = a' seems a bit better than 'one = 1 = i'

Pastille my darling!! I've really exhibited my ancientness today. I FORGOT. I'll put it up in a few moments and leave it till sometime tonight. (The wags will refer to my lengthy meals, I'm sure) Ta for the reminder.

10a looks OK. The M has to be deducted from the lady?
