Hi Trevor,
The clue is

and as Isis says the solution is Dealings.

This is the way I saw it - am open to correction.

start to disappear = d
slowly = s
part of Londion = Ealing
traffic = dealings

eleanormcn, of course you are right.

I(and I think mark too) was just trying to say to the original poster that a clue would be helpful for those that don't have the crossword.

just saying "29a d?a???g?" is crap. He got his answer anyway,but without you, the rest of us would still be puzzled.

Thank you Trevor (or do you prefer trevor?) It is strange that all the pleas for full info on x-words, clues etc. seem to fall on deaf ears. OK I was similarly guilty myself when I first found this site... Do we need a Freedom of Information Act?

Grumpy is good (I'm an expert) and yes where are they? Gone off hand-in-hand into the sunset or lurking in a sulk somewhere?
While you are here, I have one left in yesterday's Times Cryptic Jumbo 833: Shem's burst in to preserve one of a pair of rooks maybe? (8) I have n?s?s?a? but not sure about checking letters.

Looks like it might be chessman = anagram of "Shem's" inside "can"/preserve.

Thank you very much JimC. I knew my letters were suspect.
