I have fisished the crossword but I am uncertain about the solution to 1 Down

The clue is Nip into dive - one making a bit of money in the Balkans (8)

The solution is either STOTINKA or STOTINKI - the former is the singular and the latter is the plural of the Bulgarian monetary unit which is one hundredth of a "lev".

The "stotink" part of the solution is obvious (tot inside sink) but does the word "one" in the clue lead to an A (singular) or an I (plural) solution ?

It is unusual in a cryptic crossword to have two equally fitting answers. Am I missing something?

Does "a bit" suggest the singular?

I'd say plural. a bit of money, to me,implies more than a single piece of currency.

Those two replies illustrate the problem better than I did.

Thank you, both. We could have a vote!!
