If the trend to really long threads continues (for example, one of the Horsing around threads stretches to 20 pages), could I ask the website administrator to include a link to "Last", please (or is there another way of skipping to the end?)

there is an easy way of getting to the end of ANY long thread. e.g. for the big horsing around thread.......

1. open thread.

2. on the address bar ( the thing at the top starting http etc) delete "horsing around" so heading ends 227864/

3. enter "offset/ followed by a number two less than the total number of posts, i.e. if it says "1 of 198", type in 196.

4.hit OK bar and bingo.

Brilliant, Philip - thanks. Is this method documented anywhere?

Or if you're really lazy you can go to the second page of messages and find the Offset bit already typed in and just change the number at the end to two less than the total number of posts, i.e. if it says "1 of 198", type in 196.

The engine used for this forum isn't really fit for purpose. Facilities that instantly spring to mind as essential that are missing are:

Ability to go straight to the first unread post of a thread
List of threads that a member is subscribed to and that have new posts
Be able to quote a member in a reply
To be able to see where you have been quoted recently
Use of smilies

And, of course, an automatic 100,000 volt shock administered to anyone starting a new thread to thank people who have answered a question.

Wow, Torkie, that is a bit much even for someone with your name!

wouldn't be better to give the squillion volts shock to those who can't be bothered to say thankyou at all.

OK, I realise it was bit mean and might conflict with the modern distaste for professionally-administered pain. Make it 50,000 volts.
