How are you all doing? I have struggled with this one today and still have 13d and 23a to do. I also have an answer for 6d but cannot see the wordplay.

The penny has now dropped on the last two. But still cannot see how 6d is worked out.

No wonder I didn't see the wordplay..... I had the wrong answer ! Thanks. I see it now. 23a animal which "sounds like" a word for 'dragged' (probably a car that has broken down)
5d wise + english city = a British cheese
14d "votes" . (for official, think umpire of football minus the last letter) + and (anagrammed)

I had failed to get the intended meaning
of "by the ears" in 23a.
My ears are still buzzing from the noise
of the MRI machine which the hospital
treated me to yesterday.

So glad to be back in touch. There wa ssomething amiss with google here last week and I couldn`t access this site. I was missing you all but also I was completely stuck on 13Down (and still am!!!). I seem to have every second letter
-N-U-N-C- but nothing comes to mind
I am sure someone will enlighten me.

I am gardening too these days. Am trying to turn my little grubby bit of lawn into a wild flower meadow. Hope it works.
