have finished-- I think!-- bit of a struggle!-- but I don't fully understand the wordplay for quite a few:
1a: "American uncle quietly crossing wide marshy tract" is presumably Swamp: quietly is the p, but what's the rest?
33d:"Where diggers may be in a state, sadly" must be Australasia, where diggers come from(!), but what's the wordplay?
4d: "She tempted a prince, one escorted to the north" is obviously Delilah, but again, how does second half of clue work?
40d:"like a cold animal's companion on lake in Lincoln" is Catchable, and animal is the Cat, but how do you get the rest?
44d:"Sent out, having dropped glove in rising river",is presumably Evicted, and the rising river is the Dee, but how does glove become vict?
51a:"Wild flower, say, in black hole on green" has to be Buttercup, but why?
and finally (!)
47a:"Sue takes keys to visit church" is Beseech (sue), and visit church is "see ch", but why does keys become "be"?
many thanks in advance!

Black - b
Hole on green - cup (I took it to be a golfing term, don't know if I'm right.)

thanks Malone (especially for "emitted"!) and sodukolover: i'm not too impressed with the setter using w for wide, L for lake, or b for black, unless with "initially" or some other indication that only the first letter's being used!
any help on the last one "australasia"?

L and B are usual abbreviation and for all I know w is as well, perhaps in cricket? Lots of crossword conventions, Bustard, I'm making an index book of them!
