I don't see how this answer derives:
Combination lock on bicycle (8)
My answer is 'Crossbar' - can anyone explain why that would be the answer - or give me the correct one, if it's wrong, please?

Combination (n)= cross
Lock (v) = bar

I've just looked up the words in the Chambers Crossword dictionary:

for combination it gives "cross" and for lock it gives "bar".

So I think you are quite right and I hope that this helps.

I must contemplate getting a Chambers one day - though I do enjoy the erudition which some on this site display so perhaps I won't!
