Good morning! Hope these amuse and slightly challenge.

I set crossies just for pleasure. I wonder if some of you excellent regulars would like to try a few of my clues? Since they're new, no letters!

Please withhold solutions till 5 pm (GMT) to allow others to have a go.

1. Crooked and small, the garden centre takes a hint (4-5)
2. Supports terrible tsar’s inside details of practical business (5,5)
3. Field of salt (8)
4. An enormous shock for somebody? (6)
5. Topple over when holding in the turbulent river (8)

I think I may have one possibly two. Finding it difficult though as usual.

I'm sure (I think- teehee) of only one of them so far. 3 has a slew of acceptable answers.

Hi Andyc and Ari. Glad not too easy - like last week.
I always dread ambiguities when I set a clue. So, I'm hoping no. 3 really doesn't have more than one solution. I often feel like dropping 'doubles' because they're a bit prone to more than one answer.
See you around 5.

Rosie's got SKEW-WHIFF
Ari's BRASS TACKS & BIGWIG.

I gave the game away earlier that 3 is a 'double'. Therefore the following are a bit questionable:-
vocation = salt?
coverage = salt?
shipping = salt (we..ll it's a possibility as a cryptic - but it wouldn't be a good clue)
magnetic field (yes) magnetic salt?

These doubles are very difficult to solve, cold. Methinks I'll leave them out in future.

I'll leave them unanswered for a while and go off for my 'lengthy' dinner.lol

Didn't do very well this week. Only got bigwig for 4, and even then wasn't totally convinced. Annoyed that I didn't get 1. Looking forward to seeing the answers for 3 and 5.
