Thanks Joker. I thought SLOUGH at first but then realised that it would sound like an adjective and not an adverb.

I can't make anything of the first one. I tried BEAUxxxxxx and BOWxxxxxxx, but the nearest I could get was BONCHESTER. However its full name is BONCHESTER BRIDGE and doesn't sound anything like a pudding to me.

When I read Celadon's first post I thought "Why would anyone want a miasmic response?" and then I read it again. Silly me.

You didn't go far enough with your French.
I think the answer is BEAUDESERT.

Good one. No wonder I couldn't get it as it's not in the index of my road atlas. It goes straight from BEAUCHIEF to BEAUFORT. Another one for the recycling bin methinks.

Ah John
Had you only been a lover of golf then it would have been simple for you. The famous course is in Staffs (Cannock Chase),but I think the village is in Gloucestershire.
Just shows the simple pleasures you are missing in life!
