Can anyone put me out of my misery - I got both these answers but still can't fathom them ?
1a. "sailors following course they may traverse quickly" - answer - "Epsom Salts"
Sailors=Salts, and Epsom=horse racing course, but what significance is "they may traverse quickly"?
24a, "Rome loudly dismissed as a hotchpotch"
Answer "Potpourri"(="Hotchpotch"), but what's Rome got to do with it?
thanks in advance

24a, I see it as a homophone of "Popery" being the Catholic church or church of Rome.
