I was clearing out some stuff this am, and came across an article I had kept from the Times about the peculiarities of the English language.
I was going to post it on Wendy's resent thread, but tried to turn it into a clue instead.
If GH can stand for P in hiccough.
If OUGH can stand for O in dough.
If PHTH can stand for T in phthisis.
If EIGH can stand for A in neighbour.
If TTE can stand for T in gazette.
If EAU can stand for O in plateau.
Then the way you spell POTATO is…
