Looks obviously earphone, but don't know why.

31a Something stale about chaff found in American grain store ? (4,4)-C-N/-R-B
Is that corn crib ?

I agree with anniec and according to my American Heritage dictionary, corn crib is also correct.

Something stale about chaff found in American grain store ?

I think the wordplay is,

Something stale - corn (an old joke, corny)
about - C(irca)
chaff - rib (tease).

A bit free and easy with the synonyms.
