Can anyone help with my last clue?

22a C?L?S?A?

Titanic survivors, but later mostly ruined.

I can see COLOSSAL for Titanic, but can't see the rest? Will I kick myself?

Could it be Colossae, Greece, ruined by an earthquake, maybe?

There was only one colossus - at Rhodes (though it was ruined by an earthquake)

No, Colossae...an ancient city of Phrygia. There seems be be some Biblical link between Nephilim(Titans) and the Book of Colossians.

It may explain why everyone on the Times website is getting two answers wrong... well explain one of them, anyway.

The plural in the clue 'survivorS' remains unexplained. The English (ie Latin) word is 'colossi'. Is AE a plural suffix in Greek for kolossos?

Just a thought:
the survivors could be the letters of the word Colossal (meaning titanic) but (except) L (later ) mostly i.e. l,a,t,r, leaving the e which gives colossae = ruins !
hmmm
