Hi all, trying to solve my first full crossword, so bear with me please!

Spymaster in failed policy to do with games (7)

A lot of other clues point back to this so it would be a good place to start. So far I'm thinking Spymaster points to 'C' which is what the DG of MI6 uses.

Olympic - anagram of policy and M

The 'spymaster' is M (from James Bond, I think) plus an anagram of 'policy' - and gives Olympic ('to do with games').

Policy with M the spymaster, put together anagram of olympics = games.

Thanks guys! Got a couple here:

24 7 in 48 (6)
24 7 in 88 (5)
24 7 in 60 (4)

I've no idea what to make of it. 24 7 refers to the solutions 'OLYMPIC' and 'CITY', which must therefore mean London. Roman numerals don't seem to work as they're too large.

Doesn't look a very interesting crossword! I think all you need to do is Google 'Olympic cities' and find out who hosted them in the years mentioned in the clues.

Olympics held in London 1948
Rome 1960, Seoul in 1988

This one's annoying me...

Doctor wrote back: "Major problem with timber" (3,3)

I'm thinking DRY ROT, but doctor backwards is ROT COD, which upon googling gives a rather dubious meaning.

Spokesmen starting wish list with deeds (12) ----L-------
