I have "greening" as the only word I can think of, but don't see its relevance to the clue (particularly the apple trees!)

I think greening is right. Apple computers perhaps have a green policy?

Greening is a variety of apple

Probably just a reference to the general & the specific meanings (given in Chambers)of ecological policy but also introduction of more park- & woodland in cities.I would assume it's correct!
