but about crossword solvers.
I read this quote recently, and thought of this forum with great fondness.

"a man who plays with words and makes anagrams and violates the language has ugliness in his soul and hates his father."

Nice one.

I suppose we should be grateful that it's only the language which is violated and not the father!

What was the "Chur" at the bottom...?

I think CHUR means cool or sweet in the Antipodes.

Excuse me for butting in on this thread with a query for The Joker, if he's still around

Hi TJ,
I noticed in yesterday's paper that ex RBS chief Sir "Fred the Shred" Goodwin was in danger of not only losing his knighthood but worse of being "blackballed" and losing his "Fellowship" of the Royal Society of Edinburgh - FRSE. Would than mean he would be chucked out all together or just down- graded to Associate level and become an A.R.S.E. along with yourself and other colleagues ? Will you welcome this move ?

Hi Julie
I think you may have misread,or perhaps it was a misprint,in your Aberdeen Sheep Fanciers Journal.
The title was not FRSE,but FRBS,the "F" not being an abbreviation for Fellow of the RBS,but an abbreviation for a six letter verb ending in ER.
Being an A.R.S.E is for life and cannot be rescinded once granted.
I hope this clears matters up to your satisfaction.
