Hallgreening - I'm glad and relieved that you got there in the end!

I can't see where the apostrophe fits in.
Is 1d a German lager? And I can't get 6d to fit into a theme - bowled?

I didn't see the apostrophe either.
6 D IS 'bowled' and it does fit the theme.
I D is not a German lager - a simple word, fitting in with the theme.

The apostrophe is in 41ac, though it's not an obvious one.

Can anyone help with my last clued solutions:
7a I have ?D??CH
13a " I??II
15a " ?AW?D??DS (not dawn raids?)
9d " ????OSI? (presumably last one S)
And,despite having most of the unclued, unclear about what they have in common:won't mention my one idea,a 4-lettered word (but clean),but perhaps s'one could give a little hint only?

Looks like you've gone wrong with 8dn. It's the name of a bird. 7ac is an anagram. You're right with 15ac - French as in French & Saunders.

I find that by the time you've logged on, you're too late with the answer!

But - what they have in common with the theme? Try the first letter only in Chambers

ll solved now, thank you! I had DIDO for 8d,which,though perfectly possible, led me completely astray of course!Missed the allusion in 15a. Find the so-called theme pretty weak, I must say.
