I have e-r-ing, which I think is "earning", but cannot make sense of the answer.

25a Having fewer commitments in class? Is it "lesson" or "lessen" - I can never tell which of the two clues is the answer.

Earning looks good. To pull is to earn (informal use) and clearing is to earn

Lesson looks good - having fewer commitments = Less On
