Left with one(having finally picked this back up)and may have gone wrong somewhere, would appreciate a gentle nudge in the right direction.

1D News: "Run away from dog in pound!"(8)

I have letters in place...?E?E?A?? after transmuting the first two letters of 8,10 and 12A. The first two of 14A also seem to be the ones requiring transmutation which would make the final letter (most likely) E or A.

Suspect I have gone wrong but can't see where, the clue itself before transmutation completely eludes me.

Thanks

ixion

Don't know how the transmutations work, but renegade can be used as a verb (run away?). Does the answer match the definition?

Just an idea Ixion but have you thought of renagado?

We have the "dog" element, but we have to regard the pound as an "earner"

That of course should be renegado. Sorry.

Or relegate, in the sense: to run off, banish?

Thanks Aristo and AndyC....the letters in place are possibly best ignored, clue relates to answer that then has to be changed by two letters denoting an element in the periodic table, eg FE for AG etc

The definition for the pre-transmuted word is "news". The first 2 letters are transmuted. The "dog" is a typical dog's name, less "run", inside a 4-letter word for "pound".

Thanks Peterm - I'll work on that, are the letters in place correct?
