3d - I have O-E-O-. I think it must be OBERON but can't see why.

10a - I have A-R-L. April? Avril? Aural? Which and why?

You still haven't given the clues, but I remember these as Oberon and April. The second one was because 'April is the cruelest month' and I think there was some word play around Capri/island.

Musewordie, it would help if you gave the clues!
Also, you don't need to open a new thread for every query, just add a reply.
Welcome.

Clues were as follows:

16: Cruel time for lake isle without leader to start with (5)

april = [c]apri+l. "April is the cruellest month" is the first line of Eliot's The Waste Land.

3: Part of month possible for king (6)

oberon = [oct]ober+on. Oberon is king of the fairies in mediaeval European literary tradition, see i.e. A Midsummer Night's Dream.
