49a: Turning, rule line for mechanical part (4)
The letters I have are - A - L.

55d: Start to talk Greek (3). I have T - U. I think it must be TAU (which is a Greek letter), but can anyone please explain how this fits with the rest of the clue?

Many thanks. Happy Christmas everyone!

Thanks! I thought it must be WALL (LAW (rule) backwards, plus L (line)) - but please can you explain where the mechanical part fits in? I tried looking up WALL in two different dictionaries (Oxford and Chambers) but can't find any reference to mechanical parts in either!

re WALL

In Midsummer Night's Dream, Wall was played by one of the mechanicals, Tom Snout(the tinker)
