Many thanks to both of you. I don't know how you did it. Obviously better resources than we have.

If you know the odd letters (in this instance E?S?R?E?L) and you know that it is an anagram then you know that the missing four letters are N, O, C and L.
Then it is a just a case of looking up the various possibilities in the dictionary. I had never heard of this word before yesterday.

Marhill. If you know two or three letters in an answer, you can use Crossword Quick Solve. It is not 100% effective - I`ve had to send them a word occasionally - but mostly it is OK. M.
