Clue for 2d seems bit iffy, or is it me?

Ive got driving for this

I've got driving for this as well(as in driving rain for strong)

Also got driving as the answer, but got 3d first which sort of confirmed it. You're quiet to-day Andy, everything o.k with the weather?

Yes OK Ninian thanks. We're having a very bad weather day today. Ferries cancelled again, so the papers will be late again tomorrow. I'm not convinced by the crossie today, I've got crumbs for 8d) I think they call that a double definition from Goodness and scraps, but I'm not certain I've got it right. I get the r & m (possibly s )from the clue that would leave cub????
