Have been racking my brains all week to justify the answer to 1down: seersucker. Why is it that? Also 12down: is it really fanny about? Please help!

12d Could be. Fanny is a girl. AB is a sailor and OUT is not here. Fanny About is a slang way of saying wasting time.

Yes but there is no clear definition in the Seersucker one to lead you to a fabric.

clue to 1down is: watch one who is easily deceived accepting bit of rubbish. I agree with Colin E that there is no reference to a fabric in the clue so it seems a pity poor clue!? As for 12 down: Girl with sailor, not here to waste time. I follow the logic: girl's name + ab + out = fanny about. Is there really such a coarse expression?
