Evening All,
9d Conveyed and arbitrated - about time (9)
17a Design for the first time (6)

I have (I think!) MODULATED and UNVEIL respectively. This seems to fit but these last two answers do not give a letter T which is needed for the overall answer of TRACEY EMIN.
If anyone is doing this X-word can help, or if I can be of help, please let me know. Is it a compiler error?

Just bringing this back to the front page. Unfortunately I can't see either answer as being correct.

Design for the first time is INVENT

Try Mediated for the other answer

I think you are right Dandelion with INVENT but afraid ""mediated" only has 8 letters and 9 are needed. I will get out my old faithful thesaurus and see what i can find... then post the answer in case anyone else is struggling. (Although it's probably only me!)

Sorry - MEDITATED

Doh!!
Mediated "about time".... so, shove in the "T" gives "MEDITATED". It fits!

Am I alone in thinking this is a rather vague clue though? Hey ho, must now start thinking how to spend the £500.
