Fool — character from Lear — carrying monarch round (6)
I have -R-N-O and being Australian I am thinking "drongo" which is a local colloquialism for a fool. But I cannot for the life of me reconcile a "character from Lear" therefore am I wrong or is there such a thing as "gnod" or "dong" that equates to a character from Lear?

The Dongo is from Lear, carrying a king - contains the letter R = fool

Actually, "Dong" is from Edward Lear (a mythical creature with a luminous nose) carrying king = drong and then round = o so drongo.

Thanks one and all. It now makes sense. He was the guy who wrote The Owl and the Pussycat, of course!
