I am finding this very difficult.
I have filled a lot of the grid and identified most of the clashes but I need help with the endgame.
I have an idea what unclued 8d is but I am stuck on the 'alternative' mentioned in the preamble.
Any assistance please?

You are correct Rosie. I thought this was more Listener than EV.
If you have solved 8d then think of two other phrases which mean the same thing.
One is in English and one in Latin.
The letters from the misprints spell out
PICK LATIN so chose the Latin phrase (14 letters) made up from the clashing points in the grid.
