42d Ultimately thoughtless about Queen Victoria , perhaps [8].

I have the following ?e?m?n?s and really thought I should be able to get this but after days of thinking about it on and off, I can't. I have found words that fit but cannot relate them to the clue so I would appreciate an explanation of the solution too please

Ultimately thought (T) minus- (less) around queen (ER)

Thank you so much. I did have the word terminus in mind and followed the same rationale as you did but thought that ER referred to Elizabeth Regina and I could not see how to incorporate Victoria Regina. Am now off to check out er more thoroughly. Thanks again
