Your help has enabled me to finish [correctly I hope]. I would appreciate an explanation of the clues.
1. 49a Eat in the morning or stop working within a short time. I have breakfast and can see its relevance to the first part of the clue but not the second. 50d stab unpleasant person in New York upset by English. I have knife and can see the stab connection but not the remainder. Could you explain please?

Hi Bella

In US an unpleasant person is known as a fink, probably Jewish.

Bella: It does have that Yiddish ring to it, but I think it's from plain old German. In my youth the term "ratfink" was much in use- with very good reason I must say.

Thank you Aristophanes. I have only just returned to the site and following your post I googled Ratfink and found a world about which I knew nothing. Perhaps I need to go out less and google more!
