Thanks for "forewarn" - it is "winding stair", its an anagram of wind, rain , its and g.
A bit weak though with wind in the clue.
Thanks for your help!

On 36 across, I can get the RN and the fear in the clue but I can't explain the extra o and w - can you help Queenie or jazzgirl? Also, I can't get 29 down which is now ?0?O?R?P. Have you got that one?

I can't see the o or w either, but it fits in with 29d which I have as tomorrow.

I find sometimes I can't sort out all the intricacies with this setter! For 45 across I had "in perfect order" but I presume you hafve "in working order" to fit in with tomorrow. Still not sure about that area!

Nice thought, Grandpa Gruffalo, but then I'm left with f, o and r to explain.
