Not listing the Xword name as might spoil it for others. I've pored over the two last ones and am just not 'seeing' anything. Help!

1. Cheats of old seen - watch pockets! (4) ?O?S

Cries out for CONS but WHY?

2. Promise she'll get a seat inside (5,4) S?A?E ?E?L

Looks like A PEW in SHELL, giving SHAPE WELL but can't link this to 'promise'. Is there another way of looking at it?

I'm reasonably confident of the letters I have. BUT, who knows?

1. Fobs? (fob watch?)

also to "fob off"- cheat.

Absolutely correct Bernie. The 'of old' indicates an archaic word for cheat. A million thanks. I was mentally paralysed on CONS.

I thought of Shape Well (show promise),it has 'pew' inside it!

How does it link in with the clue, 'though?

'Shape well' also has shell/she'll and 'a pew'/a seat.
