I've been doing (or trying to do) this one and took it as Boner being a blunder or error, minus b for book. Not sure why oner should be a joke though!

The clue is "extract a rib from decomposing brachiosaur, that's extinct.

30 Across is an anagram - of a long word in the clue, with a part removed ('extracted' in the clue). Hope this helps.
