I must admit that I don't see the significance of "married" in italics, but the answer, of course, is a woman's name, and it is made up of A + M (married) + ELIA.
Elia, was a name Charles Lamb sometimes used when signing his name and was the name of a foreigner who was a fellow-clerk.

I was wondering about the Italics too.

I'm also a bit off kilter with 40 Down.

Seafood woman will put on plate (9) S-E-L-I-H

woman will = she'll
plate = dish

=Shelldish

But surely it must be 'Shellfish'
Any explanations would help

Hiya Les - I think the compiler is referring to a "plate" as a meal, in this case "fish". I know that "dish" probably sounds more plausible but a bit of poetic licence has intervened!

Cheers rocketman, sounds plausible.

I've finished it now, but still a tad short on the wordplay in 15 across, what do you think.

15a) For example, olde-worlde character of tea room (5) C-a-m.
I have put in Cream for cream tea but don't see the olde-worlde character part
