If 1/14 across is what I think it is then I don't see anything in the clue that asks for it. I can work it out but where is the relevance to the answer. Maybe it's something I've never heard of.

Sorry Mamya. I already have the answer. My question was for those who had already done it but I didn't make that clear.

The bit in brackets is an allusion to "Pride & Prejudice";the rest is normal "bits & pieces" put together from the main part of the clue, tho' it took me some time to see it all, I must admit!Found the puzzle a bit boring this morning, by the way.

This has been answered in another place, as Bread and Butter Letter, but how on earth can that be true? And where does the Jane Austen reference come in ?

See Collins in Chambers:Jane Austen character! The rest,as I said, is not so difficult to unravel with the separate short solutions reassembled: don't want to ruin it for the others!

Thanks for that Greedy Kite, but I am still completely confused ! Perhaps the mists will lift somewhat later today. I never find our friend Araucaria very easy at the best of times, although 23a, 3d, and 7d are quite clear !
