"Prefer to look like" = -A-O-R which will be Favour. Don't get the 'to look like' bit...

"Boarder, we hear, at home in California with villain" = criminal.

Re Favour here int north we say he or she favours their father etc to mean resembles

yes regional accents and dialects can make a big difference when puzzling.

No, haven't been on holiday yet, just been up to the eyes busy at work and it's just too blasted hot to do much of anything except complain. Oh for some nice English rain!!!
