I have STEAL for the answer to 3 down:
"Word below 'tattered slip' (5)
I'm pretty sure that the other answers which give me STEAL are right, but I can't for the life of me explain it !
I know STEAL can mean SLIP but what about the rest of the clue?

Don't particularly like this, but it's all I can think of - Could it be an anagram of LEAST, being a very loose word for below? Or something along those lines?
